About Us

The Friends of Kings Mountain State Park began January, 2009. The focus of this organization is to improve and preserve the heritage of Kings Mountain State Park as a vital reminder of the history of South Carolina and as a valuable natural resource for all S.C. citizens and the park’s many visitors.

The primary purpose of the Friends include:

(a) support the mission of the Kings Mountain State Park,

(b) provide support through partnerships in activities that may include assistance in environmental education, resource management and maintenance, and

(c) provide volunteer services through financial, staff, and program support.

Since that first organizational meeting, the membership has grown. Volunteer work days have resulted in cleared trails after numerous storms; grant funds obtained for expansion and improvements in the Apple Road day parking lot; and other related activities, such as building a bridge for the hikers.

Join us on our scheduled work days, quarterly meetings, and events.

This active group has obtain a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, tax-deductible, non-profit public charity status.

Riding Members of FKMSP:
The FKMSP Board is currently working with KMSP regarding an aggressive male donkey currently housed at the Living History Farm. Horse riders riding on the orange trail that passes the History Living Farm should be alert and ride with caution as this donkey has the potential to be free and possibly attack riders and horses. Hopefully this situation will be resolved soon.
Stay tuned for news and updates.
